Use chapter team permissions for create, edit, check-in, and (when granted) live virtual host access. Use the People tab to list Speakers, Hosts, and other event roles. Chapter team members marked Visible on community and event pages can appear in the event page Organizers section — that is separate from a People-tab Host or Speaker label, and neither listing alone grants live Presenter or Moderator mode.
Three places get confused: the chapter team (dashboard permissions and optional organizer listing), the event People tab (Speaker/Host and similar page roles), and live Bevy Virtual host/moderator/presenter controls. For how to add or change chapter team seats, see Chapter Team Members. For create steps, see Create and configure events. For day-of check-in, see Check-in attendees.
| What you want | Where to set it | Common mix-up |
|---|---|---|
| Create or edit events, manage registrations, or check people in | Chapter team seat with the matching permissions (for example a Lead Organizer– or Check-in Staff–style role — names are set by HQ) | Adding someone on the People tab does not grant Chapter Dashboard or check-in access |
| Show in the event page Organizers section | Chapter team seat with Visible on community and event pages turned on | Organizers listing is not a People-tab Speaker or Host role (those come only from the People tab) |
| Show as Speaker, Host, Moderator, Panelist, or another event role on the event page (and agenda) | Event People tab for that event | A People-tab label does not create, edit, check in, or grant live microphone/camera/host tools |
| Host or moderate a live Bevy Virtual Meetup or Conference session | Chapter team host permission (Add live session), or a host promotes them in the live room (Presenter mode / Moderator mode) | People-tab Host or Speaker, or door check-in, does not grant those live controls by itself |
Note: HQ admins define chapter team role names and permissions. Your community may not use the names Lead Organizer or Check-in Staff. Organizers cannot change those permissions from the Chapter Dashboard — ask HQ or your Customer Success Manager if a control is missing.
Important: Listing someone as Speaker, Host, or Moderator on the People tab does not give them microphone, camera, screen share, or live host tools. For virtual events, a host or moderator grants Presenter mode (and Moderator mode only when needed) in the live room — see Choose host instructions for a Bevy Virtual Event.
Chapter team: create, edit, check in, and organizer listing
Someone must be on the chapter team with the right permissions before they can create events, open Event Dashboard tabs to edit an event, manage registrations, or check attendees in for that chapter’s events.
- Create and configure — needs add-event permission. Steps: Create and configure events.
- Edit after create — needs change-event permission. Finding tabs: Manage and edit an event.
- Registrations list — needs attendee view/change permission. Steps: Manage event registrations.
- Check-in only — needs check-in permission. Check-in-only staff usually cannot open the full Registrations tab; they use Check-in Attendees or the Bevy Organizer App. Steps: Check-in attendees.
- Organizers section on the event page — turn on Visible on community and event pages for the team member. That puts them in Organizers, not in People-tab Speaker or Host. See Chapter Team Members.
How to add people to the chapter team and assign roles is in Chapter Team Members — this article does not repeat those team steps.
Event People: Speaker, Host, and other page roles
The event People tab (roles such as Speaker, Panelist, Host, Moderator, Judge, Facilitator, or Mentor) is how you list those roles on the public event page and agenda. HQ decides which roles appear and whether a minimum or maximum is required.
Add, edit, reorder, and remove people under Manage event people in Create and configure events. Being listed there does not grant Chapter Dashboard access, check-in, or live virtual controls.
Live virtual host and moderator
For Bevy Virtual Meetup and Bevy Virtual Conference:
- Chapter team members who have host permission (the Add live session permission on their chapter role) join as hosts when they RSVP and enter with a host-capable join path.
- During the event, a host or moderator can open Participants, select a person, open Actions, and turn on Presenter mode (microphone, camera, and screen share) or Moderator mode (participant management; on Conference Stages, also broadcast controls when needed).
- People promoted only in the live room do not get Chapter Dashboard or Admin Dashboard access from that promotion alone.
Pick the right host/moderator instruction set in Choose host instructions for a Bevy Virtual Event. For role details, see About Bevy Virtual Meetup roles, Use Bevy Virtual Meetup as a host/moderator, and Roles and permissions in Bevy Virtual Conference.
Tip: Door check-in (Registrations, Check-in Attendees, or the Organizer App) is separate from live-room host tools. Checking someone in does not make them a virtual host or presenter.
