Before organizers create events, HQ admins choose which event types chapters can use and what each type allows — ticketing mode, tags, guest registration, recurring series, multi-day, People roles, and more. Use this page to match a missing option to the right Admin setting; Configure event types and Configure event tags cover the full steps.
Organizers create and publish events in the Chapter Dashboard. Many fields they expect — which types appear under New event, RSVP vs paid tickets, tags, guest registration, recurring series — are decided first by an HQ admin on the event type (and related Admin settings). This page is the titled entry under Creating & Running Events: match the wall you hit to the setting HQ owns, then open the canonical Admin article for the full steps.
| If organizers see this | HQ enables | How-to article |
|---|---|---|
| The event type they need is missing from New event | Create/publish the event type and set which chapters can use it | Configure event types |
| No RSVP, free/paid tickets, or external URL option matches the plan | Event type Tickets mode (RSVP, Tickets free or paid, or External) | Configure event ticketing; depth in Configure event types |
| Paid (or $0) Bevy tickets cannot be chosen or published | Bevy Pay for the community, then Tickets free or paid on the event type | Bevy Pay Guide; Configure event ticketing |
| Guests cannot RSVP with name and email only | Allow registration as a guest on an RSVP event type | What guest registration does on your event; Configure RSVP flow |
| No event tags appear when creating or editing an event | Create tags in Admin, and set the event type tag maximum greater than 0 | Configure event tags |
| Recurring series is unavailable | Allow recurring events on the event type (not for conference agenda types) | Configure event types; organizer steps in Create and configure events |
| Multi-day dates are blocked | Allow multiday events on the event type | Configure event types |
| People roles, Startups, or local sponsor tiers never show | Set minimum/maximum (or sponsor tier names) on the event type | Configure event types |
| No conference / agenda event type to select | Event type with conference agenda enabled for the right chapters | Configure event types; agenda build in Create a conference event |
Note: You cannot change an event’s type after the event is created. Changing guest registration or moving an event type between paid tickets and RSVP-only affects live events that already use that type — coordinate with your Customer Success Manager or Bevy Support before changing production event types.
Who does what
| Role | Owns | Goes to |
|---|---|---|
| HQ admin | Event types, tag catalog and thresholds, Bevy Pay community enablement, which chapters see which types | Configure event types, Configure event tags, Bevy Pay Guide |
| Chapter organizer | Create/configure a specific event from an available type; tickets or RSVP inventory; publish | Start here: create and run an event; Create and configure events; Configure event ticketing |
Event types (the main control panel)
Almost every “why can’t I…?” wall maps to Admin Dashboard → Settings → Event Types. HQ creates or edits a type, sets General options (recurring, multi-day, conference agenda, virtual URL required), chapter visibility, People / Startups / sponsor tiers, and the Tickets accordion, then saves and publishes the type.
- Confirm the type exists and is published.
- Confirm the organizer’s chapter can see it (all chapters, or the specific-chapter list).
- Confirm the option they need is on for that type (for example recurring, tags max > 0, guest registration, Tickets free or paid).
Full field-by-field steps stay in Configure event types. This page does not repeat the Admin wizard.
Tags need two HQ steps
Tags appear for organizers only when both are true:
- HQ has created (and not archived) tags under Admin Settings → Event Tags.
- The event type has a tag maximum greater than 0.
Either gap alone hides tagging on create/edit. See Configure event tags.
Paid tickets need Bevy Pay plus the event type
Choosing Tickets, free or paid on an event type requires Bevy Pay for the community. Free ($0) tickets still use that ticket mode. Chapter payout setup is part of going live with paid events — organizers cannot unlock paid mode from the Chapter Dashboard alone.
Start with Bevy Pay Guide, then set the event type Tickets mode in Configure event ticketing.
Tip: If you are an organizer and a type or setting is missing, ask your HQ admin (or Customer Success Manager) to enable it — then return to Create and configure events. Do not expect Admin Event Types or Event Tags tabs in the Chapter Dashboard.
