When your event type allows guest registration, visitors can RSVP with a name and email without creating an account. HQ turns that option on for the event type — not on each event. Guest registration applies to free RSVP on in-person and virtual events when enabled; paid ticket purchase still requires a signed-in account.
Guest registration is an event type setting. When HQ enables Allow registration as a guest on the type you use, people can register for that event’s free RSVP with only a name and email. You do not turn guest registration on or off on the event Details tab — you inherit it from the event type when you create the event.
Attendees follow Register or RSVP for an event. HQ steps for the setting live in Configure event types. RSVP button and Page Builder setup for admins: Configure the RSVP flow.
| Visitor | What they see on your event | What Bevy records |
|---|---|---|
| Signed in | Complete RSVP (or paid checkout) on their account — guest setting does not block them. | Registration on their existing member account. |
| Guest (not signed in), guest registration on | Enter name and email for a free RSVP — no account signup step. | A registration for that email (new emails become a Prospective User). They use the confirmation email to return to the event. |
| Guest registration off | See Log in to RSVP (or similar) and must sign in or create an account first. | Registration on the signed-in account after login. |
Note: Guests do not join the chapter by registering. Optional newsletter opt-in during RSVP still follows your community’s usual rules.
Free RSVP vs paid tickets
Guest registration unlocks anonymous signup for free registration. It does not remove login for paid Bevy Pay orders.
| Ticketing on the event type | What guest registration does |
|---|---|
| Bevy Ticketing → RSVP (free) | Unlocks the name-and-email path for visitors who are not signed in. This is the main use case for guest registration. |
| Bevy Ticketing → Tickets, free or paid | Guest registration does not let someone finish a paid purchase without an account. Visitors with a paid total must sign in (or create an account) before checkout. Free $0 ticket paths follow the same guest rules as RSVP when the type allows guests. |
| External ticketing | Attendees leave Bevy for your external URL. Guest registration on the Bevy event type does not replace that external signup. |
For how RSVP vs paid vs external is chosen on the event type and Details tab, see Configure event ticketing.
In-person, virtual, and hybrid
When the event type allows guest registration, it can apply to in-person and virtual (and hybrid) events that use that type — not only in-person. Older Help Center copy that said virtual guests were impossible is out of date.
What visitors actually see still depends on your ticketing mode (RSVP vs paid vs external) and whether the public event page uses the RSVP flow. If a virtual event still forces login when you expect guests, confirm the event type has guest registration on and that the event uses Bevy Ticketing → RSVP.
What you control as an organizer
- Choose the event type when you create the event. That choice locks in whether guest registration is available for that event. You cannot change the event type later.
- Add RSVP or ticket types on the event Details tab (titles, quantity, availability, waitlist). Guest registration does not replace those rows.
- Publish the event and share the public event page. Guests register from that page when the type allows it.
- Manage people on the Registrations tab the same way you manage signed-in registrants — see Manage event registrations.
Important: Chapter organizers do not enable Allow registration as a guest themselves. Ask a community admin, Bevy Support, or your Customer Success Manager if your event type should allow guests. Changing that setting on a live event type affects every event that uses it.
How guests appear on Registrations
Guest registrations show on the event Registrations tab with the name and email they entered. You can edit, remove, resend email, or check them in like other free RSVPs. They receive the usual Ticket Confirmation email for their registration.
If someone registered as a guest with an email that already belongs to a member account, Bevy links the registration to that user when possible. New emails are tracked as a Prospective User until they create a full account.
If visitors cannot register without signing in
- Confirm the event uses Bevy Ticketing → RSVP (or a free path), not external ticketing only.
- Ask a community admin whether that event type has Allow registration as a guest enabled.
- Open the public event page in a private/incognito window (signed out) and try RSVP. Signed-in tests will not show the guest path.
- For paid tickets, expect login before checkout even when guest registration is on.
Tip: Share the public event URL with people who should register as guests. They do not need a chapter membership first — only name, email, and an open RSVP when the type allows guest registration.
