Compare chapter newsletters, global newsletters, automated emails, and system emails. Pick the right type, then open the how-to for that tool.
Before you start
Bevy has four email types. Use this page to tell them apart, then open the article for the type you need.
This is not the Chapter Dashboard list of sent, scheduled, and draft emails. That how-to is Use the chapter Emails page.
Roles control who can create chapter and global newsletters. Your community administrator assigns those permissions. See About role management and permissions.
Choose an email type

Chapter newsletters
Chapter newsletters are one-time emails you write for a chapter audience. Typical uses include announcing events, sharing chapter news, and following up after an event.
Open Emails in the Chapter Dashboard. Click New email to start a draft. In the composer you can Save draft, Send test, and Preview. Send now is inside the Schedule dialog.
Chapter newsletters use the chapter audience list. They do not use custom segments.
People subscribe when they join the chapter or opt in while registering for an event. Sends honor the chapter suppression list for audiences that use it.
To write and send one, see Send a chapter newsletter. To review what already went out, see Use the chapter Emails page.
Custom segments belong to global newsletters, not the chapter composer.
Global newsletters
Global newsletters are one-time emails headquarters sends to a site-wide audience. Recipients include people who subscribed during sign-up and people who match a custom segment.
HQ opens Admin Dashboard → Emails → Newsletters. Creating a send requires Add global newsletter.
Unsubscribe for these sends uses the global email subscription list, not the chapter suppression list. Manage that list in How to Create and Manage the Global Email Subscription List.
The how-to is Global Emails.
Automated emails
Automated emails are marketing messages HQ configures. Bevy sends them when a trigger fires, such as a member joining a chapter or an event starting soon.
HQ manages templates at Admin Dashboard → Emails → Automated emails. Chapter organizers cannot edit the template. On some communities, a scheduled automated send can appear on the chapter Emails page so an organizer can preview, reschedule, or cancel that send.
Typical automated sends include a chapter-join welcome, event reminders, and a post-event follow-up. For hidden events and event-level cancel or reschedule, see Event emails.
Automated emails that go to subscribed audiences include an unsubscribe link. Setup steps live in Automated emails. That article will be retitled Set up automated emails.
System emails
System emails are transactional. Bevy sends them because of a platform action, not because an organizer scheduled a newsletter.
HQ customizes templates at Admin Dashboard → Emails → System emails. System emails do not appear on the chapter Emails list. Chapters cannot turn them off from the dashboard.
Typical system emails include a ticket confirmation, an order refund confirmation, an event published notice to chapter leadership, and a sign-up welcome when someone creates an account.
Recipients usually cannot unsubscribe. Password resets and ticket confirmations are examples. The type and recipient list is in System emails.
Subscriptions and unsubscribe
- Chapter newsletters — Join the chapter, or opt in during event registration. Unsubscribe uses the chapter suppression list.
- Global newsletters — Subscribe during site sign-up or through HQ’s global list and segments. Unsubscribe uses the global list.
- Automated emails — Many include an unsubscribe link when the audience uses subscription tracking.
- System emails — Recipients cannot opt out of these transactional messages.

Organizers see per-send Delivered, Unique opens, Unique clicks, and Unsubscribed on the chapter Emails cards. That is not a separate email-analytics product.
HQ can open Admin Analytics → Emails for the emails dashboard. Newsletter and automated send reports also live in Report Center. See Email analytics and List of reports in the Report Center.
