A prospective user is someone added to the platform on their behalf — such as a manual attendee or chapter import — who has not yet registered or signed in. Once they complete the sign-up flow using the same email address, their account becomes active.
Understand prospective users
A prospective user is a user who has been added to the platform on their behalf, but has not yet registered or signed in to Bevy. The platform assigns them the role of Prospective User until they complete the sign-up flow.
The two ways a user can create a full account on Bevy are:
- Bevy sign-up — the user registers directly on the Bevy site
- Single sign-on (SSO) — the user signs in through an identity provider
Any other action that adds a person to the platform creates a prospective user instead.
Identify a prospective user
To identify a prospective user, follow these steps:
- Go to the Admin Dashboard and select Members.
- Open the member's detail page.
- Check the Role field. Prospective users are assigned the role Prospective User.
Convert a prospective user to a registered user
To convert a prospective user to a registered user, the person must complete the normal sign-up flow using the same email address associated with their prospective account. After they sign up, their account becomes active and they can proceed as normal.
Prospective users cannot reset their password. Because they have not yet created an account, they do not have a password and will not receive password reset emails. They must complete the sign-up flow first.
Understand how prospective users are created
A prospective user is created any time someone is added to the platform by an action other than the Bevy sign-up flow or single sign-on (SSO). The following actions create a prospective user:
- Manual attendee addition — when the email address provided does not belong to an existing user
- Chapter import or manual member addition — when the email address provided does not belong to an existing user
- Meetup integration sync
- Google Groups import
- Splash That integration sync
- Newsletter or contact list import
Send emails to prospective users
Prospective users receive all standard platform emails with two exceptions:
- Welcome email — not sent because the user has not completed the sign-up flow
- Password reset email — not sent because the user does not yet have a password
