Share your screen and audio in Bevy Virtual Meetup, Bevy Virtual Conference, or a webinar room, choose screen-share quality, fix macOS permissions if needed, and present slides clearly even with one monitor.
Screen share uses the same desktop tray controls in Bevy Virtual Meetup, Bevy Virtual Conference (including backstage), and webinar rooms. You need Presenter mode in the room where you are presenting. If you do not see Share screen, ask a host or moderator to turn on presenter mode — see the table below for product paths.
- Share screen / Stop sharing — tray controls that start and end the share.
- Screen Share Quality — drop-up options that control how sharp or smooth your share looks.
- Max Screenshare Height — maximum vertical resolution (pixels) for the share.
Note: Mobile and most tablet browsers cannot share a screen from the browser tray. Only one person can share at a time — while someone else is sharing, Share screen stays unavailable.
Get Presenter mode (when Share screen is missing)
If Share screen is missing from the tray, confirm you have Presenter mode for that room:
| Where you are | How Presenter mode works for Share screen |
|---|---|
| Bevy Virtual Meetup | A host or moderator turns on Presenter mode for you. See Use Bevy Virtual Meetup as a presenter. |
| Bevy Virtual Conference (session or backstage) | A host or moderator turns on Presenter mode (Participants → your name → Actions). Share screen uses the same tray in a session or in backstage — broadcasting to the stage is a separate host/moderator step. See Roles and permissions in Bevy Virtual Conference, Use Bevy Virtual Conference as a host/moderator, and About backstage in Bevy Virtual Conference. |
| Webinar room (Meetup or Conference) | You need Presenter mode in that room the same way. Only one person can share at a time. Hosts promote or admit presenters separately — see Promote or remove a presenter in webinar mode and Admit attendees from the webinar waiting room when those steps apply. |
Share your screen
- In the bottom tray, select Share screen.
- In the browser prompt, choose what to share (labels vary by browser):
| Choice | What attendees see |
|---|---|
| Entire Screen | Everything on that display, including notifications unless you silence them. |
| Window | One app window only. |
| Browser Tab | One browser tab (Chrome and similar). Best path when you need Share tab audio. |
- Select Share to start. In Safari, you typically get one prompt to share the whole screen.
To end the share, select Stop sharing in the tray (or stop from the browser’s share indicator).
Tip: Prefer Window or Browser Tab over Entire Screen when you can, so chat, email, and desktop notifications stay private. If the shared window is small on your display, attendees may see a small or soft image — enlarge the window before you share.
Adjust screen-share quality
Open the arrow next to Share screen to set quality before or during a share. If you change a setting while you are already sharing, Bevy may ask whether to Restart Now so the new setting applies immediately, or Later to apply on your next share.
| Option | Best for |
|---|---|
| Default | General use — balances motion and detail automatically. |
| Detail Optimized | Text, slides, code, and detailed graphics (common default). |
| Motion & Detail Balanced | Presentations that mix slides and video. |
| Motion Optimized | Smooth playback for video or animation. |
Max Screenshare Height sets the maximum vertical resolution in pixels (about 360–2160). Higher values look sharper on large displays but use more bandwidth and CPU. Values above 720px show a high-resolution warning. For most slides and text, 1080 or 1440 is enough; use 2160 only for highly detailed content when your machine and network can handle it.
Share audio while you share your screen
To play music or a video with sound for the room, open the media in a browser tab (for example YouTube or Spotify on the web) when you can. Desktop apps are harder to share with reliable audio.
Mute yourself or use earphones while shared audio plays so attendees do not hear an echo from your speakers.
Share tab audio (macOS, Linux, and Windows)
- Open your media in a browser tab.
- In Bevy Virtual, select Share screen.
- Choose Browser Tab (or the equivalent Chrome Tab label).
- Select the tab with your content.
- Turn on Share tab audio (wording varies by browser).
- Select Share, then play the media.
Share system audio (Windows, Entire Screen)
- Open your media app.
- Select Share screen, then Entire Screen.
- Select the screen that has your content.
- Turn on Share system audio (or similar).
- Select Share, then play the media.
Important: Browser and operating system support for shared audio varies. Some setups only allow tab audio, and some do not expose system audio at all.
Allow screen recording on macOS
If macOS blocks screen share the first time you present, allow Screen Recording for your browser, then quit and reopen the browser before you rejoin.
- Open the Apple menu, then select System Settings. On macOS Monterey and earlier, select System Preferences.
- Select Privacy & Security. On older macOS, select Security & Privacy, then the Privacy tab.
- Select Screen Recording.
- Turn on access for your browser (Chrome, Firefox, or Safari).
- Quit and reopen the browser, then rejoin the room and try Share screen again.
After a macOS update, recheck Screen Recording — the permission can reset to off. If the browser still blocks the share, see Why can't I share my screen? in Presenter troubleshooting FAQs.
Present slides with a single monitor on macOS
On one display, sharing a small tab can make slides look tiny, but you still need the Bevy Virtual room for chat and mute. Sharing a full window and swiping between full-screen apps keeps slides large for attendees.
- Open System Settings → Trackpad → More Gestures (or System Preferences on older macOS).
- Turn on Swipe between full-screen apps.
- Open your slides in their own browser window (or app window).
- In Bevy Virtual, select Share screen and choose that window.
- Swipe between spaces to move between your slides and the Bevy Virtual room. Attendees keep seeing only the shared window.
Tip: A second monitor is simpler when you have one — put the Bevy Virtual room (chat, reactions, your self-view) on one display and share the presentation display or window at full size.
What attendees see
While you share, your screen fills most of the Bevy Virtual window and you appear as a small video thumbnail (often top-right). You cannot change that layout during the share.
Best practices for screen sharing
- If a host or moderator is recording, ask them to start recording before you share so the capture includes the full presentation — see Record a virtual event in Bevy Virtual Meetup or Record a Bevy Virtual Conference event.
- For video with sound, share a browser tab with Share tab audio, or on Windows use Entire Screen with system audio when available.
- Only one person can share at a time, but several people can be in presenter mode.
- Pause a few seconds before you start or stop sharing so the room can settle.
- Turn on Do Not Disturb and mute desktop notifications before you share.
- For delivery tips beyond screen share, see Best practices for presenters in Bevy Virtual Meetup.
