On communities that block third-party embeds until cookie consent, maps, videos, slides, and other embeds stay blank until you accept cookies. Use Open cookie settings on the placeholder, then accept.
If a map, video, slide deck, or other third-party embed on an event or chapter page looks blank or shows a short message instead of the content, cookie consent is often the reason — not a broken page.
On communities that block third-party embeds until cookie consent, Bevy waits for you to accept cookies before it loads those embeds. Until then, you see a placeholder (for example Accept cookies to load Google Maps) with an Open cookie settings button. After you accept, the embed loads without refreshing the page.
Note: This behavior only applies where a cookie-consent banner (and embed blocking) is enabled. On communities without that setting, maps and embeds load as usual. For general cookie types on Bevy, see Cookies on Bevy.
Load the embed as a visitor
- On the blank map, video, or embed, look for the placeholder message and the Open cookie settings button.
- Select Open cookie settings (or use the community’s cookie banner if it is still visible).
- Accept cookies (including the categories your community requires for embeds, such as social or advertising / marketing).
- Stay on the page — the map, video, or embed should load without a refresh.
Tip: For a venue map, the address and Google Maps search link can still appear while the embedded map waits for consent. Accepting cookies loads the map in place.

If you organize or administer the page
If visitors report a blank map, video, or embed:
- Open the public page in a private or incognito window (or clear site cookies) so you see the pre-consent state.
- Confirm the placeholder and Open cookie settings appear, then accept cookies and confirm the embed loads.
- If there is no consent placeholder and the content is still missing, check setup instead of consent:
- Venue map: confirm Display map of the location on the event page is selected and the address is saved — Add a location map to an event.
- Page builder map, slides, or video: confirm the component or element is published with a valid source — About event page builder components, About event page builder elements, or About chapter page builder layouts, elements, and components.
- Embed It widgets: confirm the widget variables (IDs, handles) are filled in — Set up prebuilt Embed It widgets.
Important: Declining non-essential cookies (or accepting only analytics on some communities) can leave maps and videos gated. Visitors who need the embed must accept the cookie categories your community requires for third-party content.
