Learn what each layout, element, and component in the chapter page builder does, and how to add one to your chapter page.
The Add to canvas panel in the chapter page builder groups its building blocks into three sections:
- Layouts — prebuilt designs made of one or more containers, plus an empty container for building your own.
- Elements — individual pieces of content, such as text, buttons, and images, that you place inside a layout or container.
- Components — sections that pull live data from your chapter, such as the chapter team or upcoming events. You design how a component looks on the canvas, but its content comes from the chapter dashboard.
Add a layout, element, or component to the canvas
- Open the chapter page builder for your chapter.
- In the Add to canvas panel, expand Layouts, Elements, or Components.
- Drag a tile onto the canvas, or select the tile to add it.
- Select the item on the canvas and use the tabs in the settings panel to customize it.
- Select Save.
A tile is unavailable when the page already has the maximum number of that item allowed.
To control who sees a section, apply a display rule to its container on the Display tab. See Display rules — chapter page builder.
Layouts
Chapter banner
A prebuilt layout that quickly conveys key details about the chapter, including the banner image, region, chapter name, member count, description, and a Join (or Leave) button.
Place the chapter banner at the top of your chapter page.
Chapter location
A prebuilt layout that shows the chapter's location.
Chapter map
A prebuilt layout that shows the chapter's location on a map.
Three columns
A prebuilt layout with an image, title, body text, and button in each column. Adjust spacing with the margin and gap controls. Delete or duplicate a column to use fewer or more than three.
Alternating
A prebuilt layout that pairs images with content. Use it for longer-form content on a chapter page.
Featured video
A prebuilt layout for a video embedded from a link or from the chapter's featured video.
Quote
A prebuilt layout that highlights a text excerpt, such as a quote about the chapter or a member's experience.
Statistics
A prebuilt layout that shows at-a-glance facts about the chapter. Adjust spacing with the margin and gap controls. Delete or duplicate a statistic to show fewer or more than four.
Empty container
A blank container for building your own layout. Everything inside a container moves together, so you can quickly reposition content. Container settings are grouped into three tabs:
- Styles — background, size, spacing, alignment, number of columns, borders, and drop shadow.
- Display — a display rule that controls when the container appears, and a section anchor name that buttons and page links can jump to.
- Actions — a link that opens when a visitor selects the container. Links open in a new tab by default.
Elements
Text
Adds static text that you update manually. These settings are available:
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Text style | Applies body text or a heading style (Heading 1–6). |
| Font | Applies a font. Appears only when custom fonts are set up for your Bevy site. |
| Text size | Sets size from 12 to 80. The default is 16. |
| Text color | Sets the text color. |
| Align | Aligns text left, center, or right. |
| Style | Adds bold, italic, or underline. |
| Insert link | Links text to a custom URL or to a chapter link, such as the chapter's website or parent chapter URL. |
| Lists | Formats text as a bulleted or numbered list. |
Dynamic text
Adds text that fills in and updates automatically from the chapter dashboard, so you don't need to edit the page when chapter details change. Available sources: Chapter name, city, state/province, country, region, location, latitude and longitude, description, member count, and parent chapter name.
Video
Embeds a video that visitors can watch without leaving the page. In Video source URL, paste a link or choose the chapter's featured video. You can also set the width as a percentage, the alignment, and a drop shadow. Height adjusts automatically.
Only YouTube, Vimeo, and Vidyard links can be embedded. Video files can't be uploaded to Bevy.
Button
Adds a clickable button. Choose what it does under Button action, and style its background, corners, size, spacing, alignment, borders, and shadow on the Styles tab.
| Button action | What it does |
|---|---|
| Link | Opens a custom URL or a chapter link: chapter address (Google Maps directions), chapter external website, featured video URL, parent chapter URL, blog category page, or the chapter's Facebook, Flickr, Instagram, X, or LinkedIn page. |
| Anchor | Jumps to a section on the same page: any heading, any component, or any container with a section anchor name. Unavailable until the page has one. |
| Load more | Shows more items in a component on the page, such as Upcoming events. Unavailable until the page has a component that supports it. |
| Join chapter | Lets visitors join the chapter. The button text changes with membership status: Join, Leave, Request to Join, or Application Pending. |
| Contact chapter | Opens a form visitors can use to contact the chapter team. |
| Create discussion | Lets members start a discussion. Available when discussions are enabled. The button text changes to Log in to create discussion, Join chapter to create discussion, or Start a discussion. |
Image
Adds an image. Choose Custom image to upload a file, or choose the chapter banner or chapter logo. Custom images must be 2 MB or smaller in .jpg, .png, or .svg format. [VERIFY]
- Alt text — a description of the image that screen readers read aloud and search engines use for context.
- Width (percentage) — the image width. Height adjusts automatically.
- Rounded corners — the corner radius.
- Alignment — left, center, or right.
- Drop shadow — the shadow color, angle, distance, blur, and size.
Divider
Adds a line to separate sections. You can set its alignment, width, and drop shadow.
Social links
Adds icons that link to the chapter's X, LinkedIn, Facebook, Flickr, Instagram, and website, plus a Contact host icon that opens a contact form. An icon appears only when the chapter has that link saved in its settings. On the Settings tab, choose which icons to show. On the Styles tab, set the icon color (black by default). The icon order can't be changed.
Social share
Adds a share button. On devices and browsers that support it, selecting the button opens the device's own share options. Otherwise, it opens a menu of the platforms you choose on the Settings tab under Platforms: Copy link, Email, Facebook, LinkedIn, Pinterest, SMS, and X. All are on by default.
The share button's background is transparent by default, and its icon uses your site's primary text color. Change both on the Styles tab.
Icon
Adds a decorative icon, such as speech bubbles or a pin. You can set its type, color, and width.
Discussion elements
When discussions are enabled on your site, three more elements are available. They're part of the Discussions component's default design and work inside a discussion card:
- Discussion Reactions — shows reactions on a discussion. Members who can start topics can add reactions.
- Discussion Menu — the options menu for a discussion, such as pinning, locking, flagging, or deleting, based on the viewer's permissions.
- Forum Subscription — lets members turn notifications for the discussion forum on or off.
Components
Each component appears with a default design when you add it to the canvas. You can customize the design and use dynamic fields to show the component's data. Some components appear only when the related feature is on for your site.
The Add to canvas panel uses default names, such as Sub-chapters and Partners. On the page itself, component headings use your site's custom terms.
Chapter team
Shows the members of the chapter team. Each card can link to the team member's profile.
Sub-chapters
Shows the chapter's sub-chapters. It displays only on a parent chapter page that has sub-chapters.
Past events
Shows events the chapter has already hosted.
Upcoming events
Shows events the chapter is scheduled to host.
Global sponsors
Shows global sponsors added on the Sponsors tab of the admin dashboard. Available when sponsors are enabled.
Local sponsors
Shows local sponsors added on the Sponsors tab of the chapter dashboard. Available when sponsors are enabled.
Partners
Shows the chapter's partners. Available when partners are enabled.
Featured blog posts
Shows recently published blog posts. Available when the blog is enabled.
Chapter photos
Shows a gallery of the chapter's photos.
Discussions
Adds a prebuilt discussions section, available when discussions are enabled. Its default design includes a Start a discussion button, the discussion elements, and display rules for when the chapter has discussions and when it doesn't. On the Settings tab, Limits sets how many discussions appear per page (1–20, default 3).
The Discussions component relies on the display rules in its default design. If you move it into another container, check that container's display rule so the discussions still appear.
Component fields
Along with the chapter dynamic text sources, each component offers its own fields:
| Component | Fields |
|---|---|
| Chapter team | First name, last name, full name, avatar, company, title, X, team member profile |
| Sub-chapters | Name, city, state, country, region, description, member count, banner, logo, featured video URL, page URL, website |
