Duplicate a chapter event to create a new draft with reusable details, review what is and is not copied, and publish when the new event is ready.
Use Duplicate on a chapter event card when you want a new draft that reuses setup from an existing event. You can duplicate draft, published, completed, or canceled events. The new event always opens as a draft so you can review it before publishing.
- Duplicate — creates a new draft from an existing event on the host chapter’s Events list.
- Draft — the status of every duplicated event until you publish.
- Source event — the original event you duplicate from; it stays unchanged.
Note: Duplicating does not move or copy registrations. Attendees on the source event must register again for the new event.
Who can duplicate an event
Community admins and chapter team members who can create events for the host chapter can duplicate from that chapter’s Events list. Creating the draft uses the same permission as adding a new event.
- Duplicate from the chapter that hosts the event. Collaborating (cohost) chapters do not see Duplicate on an event hosted by another chapter. See About cohosted events.
- Canceled events still show Duplicate so you can reuse setup as a new draft. See Cancel an event.
- If you expect to see Duplicate and do not, confirm you are on the host chapter and that your chapter team role includes creating events.
When Duplicate is unavailable
Duplicate is not available in these cases:
- Conference agenda — the event type has the conference agenda enabled (Bevy Virtual Conference and similar types). Stages, sessions, and booths are not cloned this way. Create a new conference event instead. See Create and configure events.
- Cohost collaborator view — you are viewing the event from a collaborating chapter, not the host chapter.
- Event type no longer available — HQ removed or retired the event type so Bevy cannot resolve it for a new event. Soft-deleted types that still resolve for the chapter can still be duplicated; if the type is gone entirely, Duplicate may be missing or creating the draft may fail. Ask your community administrator to restore the type or create a new event with a current type.
Important: Do not use Duplicate to clone a full conference agenda. Build conference stages and sessions on a new conference event.
Duplicate an event
- In the Chapter Dashboard, select Events.
- Find the event you want to reuse (draft, published, completed, or canceled).
- On the event card, select Duplicate.
- Bevy creates a new draft and opens its Details page.
- Review the copied details, tickets, people, date and time, venue, virtual settings, and event page content.
- Make any necessary changes, then select Save draft or Publish.
For day-to-day editing after you open the draft, see Manage and edit an event.
What is copied
| Area | What happens on Duplicate |
|---|---|
| Status | Always a new Draft. Review and publish when ready. |
| Date and time | Reset to a new start (typically the next day in the event timezone) with a short default duration. Update the schedule before you publish. |
| Details | Title, description, tags, venue settings, and similar Details fields are reused. Short description is cleared so you can set a new one. |
| Images | Banner and thumbnail image paths are reused when present. See Add event description, banner, and images. |
| Tickets | Ticket types are copied. Sale windows are derived from the new event’s publish and end dates instead of keeping the source sale dates. Review prices, capacity, and venue (In-person / Virtual) on hybrid events. |
| People and sponsors | Assigned people roles (speakers, hosts, and similar) and sponsors are linked again on the new draft. |
| Event page | Page Builder content from the source event is copied when available. Review the public page before you publish. |
| Virtual settings | External virtual URL, join instructions, and related virtual Details options can carry over. Live join rooms and session identifiers are not reused — the new event gets its own virtual session when you configure and publish it. |
Tip: Always review ticket sale dates and hybrid ticket venues on the duplicate. Bevy derives a new sale window for copied tickets instead of keeping the source event’s old sale dates. A hybrid event still needs at least one In-person ticket and one Virtual ticket.
What is not copied
| Area | Not copied |
|---|---|
| Registrations | Attendees, orders, and check-in history stay on the source event. People must register again. See Manage event registrations. |
| Emails | Newsletters, automated email history, and scheduled sends are not moved to the new draft. |
| Discounts and surveys | Discount codes and event surveys are not cloned. Recreate them on the new event if needed. |
| Cohost links | Collaborating chapter relationships are not copied. Set up cohosting again on the new event if you need it. See About cohosted events. |
| Recurring series | The duplicate is a standalone draft. It does not keep the original recurrence schedule. |
| Lobby and wrap-up media | Conference lobby assets, lobby banner, embedded video URL, and wrap-up photos are not applied to the duplicate. |
| Conference agenda | Stages, sessions, booths, and other conference agenda items are not duplicated. Events whose type uses the conference agenda cannot use Duplicate. |
Virtual and hybrid events
Duplicating a virtual or hybrid meetup-style event reuses Details settings when they are part of the source event, with these caveats:
- External virtual URL and instructions — may appear on the new draft. Confirm they still apply before you publish.
- Bevy Virtual live session — the new event does not reuse the source event’s live join room. Configure and publish the new event so it gets its own session.
- Lobby fields — lobby image, lobby banner, and related lobby/video fields used for conference experiences are not copied onto the duplicate.
- Hybrid tickets — if your community requires venue-specific tickets, keep at least one In-person and one Virtual ticket on the draft or publishing can fail. See Hybrid events and Configure event ticketing.
- Conference types — Duplicate is hidden when the event type uses the conference agenda. Create a new conference event and rebuild the agenda there.
Duplicate one event from a recurring series
Select Duplicate on the individual occurrence you want to reuse. The new event is an independent draft and does not keep the original recurrence schedule. Configure a new recurrence only if you want the duplicate to start a new series. See Create and configure events.
