Bevy gamification rewards community activity with points, badges, profile titles, and leaderboards. Learn what the feature includes, which member actions communities can recognize, and where to go when you are ready to set it up.
Bevy gamification helps communities recognize useful member activity—discussions, events, milestones, and more—with points, badges, profile titles, and leaderboards. When the feature is enabled for your community, admins configure scoring and achievements under Discussions Manage, and members see recognition on their profile, Rewards tab, hover cards, and Leaderboards.
This introduction explains what gamification offers in Bevy today. When you are ready to configure it, start with About Bevy gamification and the how-to articles listed at the end of this page.
Building blocks
| Building block | What it does | Where people see it |
|---|---|---|
| Points | Scores for actions the community chooses to reward; communities can run more than one scoring system | Profile points, hover cards, leaderboards |
| Badges | Achievements for action counts, streaks, score thresholds, prior badges, or membership anniversaries | Profile, Rewards tab, hover cards, chat |
| Profile titles | Labels from an ordered title ladder of badges (one active ladder at a time) | Under the name on profile, hover cards, and chat |
| Leaderboards | Rankings based on community scores (global and per-score boards) | Discussions sidebar and the Leaderboards page |
| Streaks | Consecutive activity over a day, week, or month period | Badge progress and unlocks on Rewards |
Note: Gamification is separate from staff badges (company or community staff identity) and from role chips such as Admin, Moderator, or Original Poster.
What communities can reward
When gamification is enabled, communities can award points and badges for activity Bevy already tracks. Common rewardable behaviors include:
| Area | Examples |
|---|---|
| Discussions | Start a discussion; reply; receive a reply on your discussion; receive a reaction on your post; have a reply accepted as a solution; post in a specific category (with metadata filters) |
| Events | RSVP (register); check in; complete or leave an event (checkout); attend a set number of events over a period (with rate limits and count rules) |
| Community & milestones | Join a chapter; daily, weekly, or monthly activity streaks; reach score thresholds; earn prior badges first; membership anniversaries (Years since joining, when Support enables anniversary earning) |
| External signals | Custom events from an external webhook or API (set up with Bevy Support) |
Tip: Leaderboards use community scores automatically. There is no separate “create a leaderboard” screen. Ask Bevy Support or your Customer Success Manager if staff accounts should be hidden from rankings.
Advanced capabilities
Beyond basic “do X, earn Y,” Bevy’s gamification engine supports richer rules when Manage tools are enabled for your community:
- Multiple scoring systems — separate point categories for different activities, with optional contribution to a global total.
- Rate limits and action caps — limit how often an action awards points (day / week / month) or how many times it can count.
- Metadata filters — award only when event data matches (for example anniversary year, or a specific discussion category).
- AND / OR achievement logic — combine count, streak, score, and prior-badge rules.
- Actor and object-owner rewards — award the person who acted and, when configured, the owner of the post or discussion.
- Title ladders — ordered badge tiers that surface as a profile title (only one title ladder active at a time).
- External actions — ingest custom events from outside Bevy for scoring and badges.
Note: Bevy Support or your Customer Success Manager turns on gamification for your community. That can include Manage pages, Rewards, Leaderboards, anniversary earning, profile titles, and related display options.
Terminology
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Scoring System | Admin configuration that maps community actions to points |
| Badge / achievement | A reward members unlock when rules are met |
| Achievement Groups | Collections of badges; a Title ladder shows ordered tiers on profiles, or a Category group organizes badges without titles |
| Rewards | Member view of badge progress (in progress, unlocked, and all rewards on their own profile) |
| Years since joining | Anniversary trigger for membership milestones; Support must enable anniversary earning |
