Connect Slack from Settings → Integrations so Bevy can post event and registration messages to the channels you choose. A community admin turns Connect on, authenticates with Slack, picks an Events channel and an Attendee channel, then tests with a published event.
Bevy posts one-way messages into Slack channels you choose when an event is published or cancelled, and when someone registers or cancels a registration. Bevy does not read messages from Slack. For a shorter overview, see Slack integration - Introduction. For member browse, RSVP, and chapter alerts in Slack, see Use Community Events (Bevy) in Slack.
Who can connect
A community admin connects Slack from Settings → Integrations in the Admin Dashboard. If you do not see the Slack card, contact your Customer Success Manager or Bevy Support.
Before you connect
- Decide which Slack workspace should receive community messages.
- Choose an Events Slack Channel for publish and cancel messages, and an Attendee Slack Channel for registration and cancel-registration messages. You can use the same channel for both, or two different channels.
- Plan to publish a short test event after Connect finishes so you can confirm messages appear.
Connect Slack
- Sign in to the Bevy admin dashboard as a community admin.
- Go to Settings → Integrations (
/accounts/dashboard/#/admin/settings/integrations/). - Find the Slack card and turn Connect on. A setup wizard opens in a popup window.
- In the wizard, sign in to Slack and approve access when Slack prompts you.
- Select the Events Slack Channel for publish and cancel messages.
- Select the Attendee Slack Channel for registration messages. It can be the same channel you chose for Events, or a different one.
- Finish the wizard and close the popup. Bevy enables the connection. The Connect toggle stays on.
Note: Message text and format are fixed. You cannot customize what each Slack message says.
If Slack shows an install warning
During install, Slack may show a warning about the app. Use these steps:
- “This app is not approved by Slack” — Slack reviews third-party apps against its security and quality standards. Bevy’s integration is submitted for Slack review. You can usually continue the install; if your workspace blocks unapproved apps, ask a Workspace Owner to allow the install or contact Bevy Support.
- “This app isn’t listed in the Slack App Directory” — A Workspace Owner may need to allow apps that are not listed in the Slack App Directory. In Slack, follow Manage app settings and permissions and turn off Only allow apps from the Slack App Directory, then start Connect again from Bevy.
What messages post
After the integration is connected, Bevy posts a new Slack message for each of these actions:
| When this happens in Bevy | Slack posts to |
|---|---|
| An event is published | Events Slack Channel |
| An event is cancelled | Events Slack Channel |
| Someone registers for an event | Attendee Slack Channel |
| Someone cancels their registration | Attendee Slack Channel |
You can use the same Slack channel for Events and Attendee messages, or different channels.
| Event publish and cancel messages include |
|---|
| Event name |
| Location |
| Event date |
| Chapter name |
| Event description |
| Event URL |
| Registration and cancel-registration messages include |
|---|
| Event |
| Full name |
| Ticket type |
When messages post
When one of the actions above happens in Bevy, Bevy queues the update. The Slack message usually appears within about five minutes. You cannot change that timing.
Slack also applies rate limits to apps that post into workspaces. Bevy’s posts are subject to those Slack platform limits. During busy periods, messages may take longer to appear. For how Slack rate limits work, see Slack’s rate-limit documentation.
Note: Draft events are not posted. Hidden events are posted. Events in inactive chapters and test chapters are posted.
Test the connection
- Finish Connect in the wizard so the Connect toggle stays on.
- In Bevy, create a short public test event and publish it.
- Within about five minutes, open the Events Slack Channel and confirm the publish message (name, date, chapter, description, and URL).
- Optional: register for the test event (or cancel a registration) and confirm the Attendee Slack Channel message.
- Optional: cancel the test event in Bevy and confirm the cancel message in the Events channel.
Tip: Use a private or low-traffic Slack channel for the first test so you can validate messages without notifying your full community.
Change the connected channels
To point Bevy at different Slack channels:
- On the Slack card, select edit to reopen the setup wizard.
- Authenticate again if prompted, then select the new Events and/or Attendee channels and finish the wizard.
Messages already posted in the previous channels stay there. New posts go to the channels you just selected.
Disconnect or reconnect
- Disconnect: Turn Connect off and confirm. Bevy stops posting. Messages that were already sent remain in Slack.
- Reconnect: Turn Connect on again and finish the wizard. Bevy posts again for new publishes, cancels, and registrations after reconnecting.
