Bevy webinar mode is a listen-only virtual room: presenters appear on camera, the audience stays hidden, and chat and Q&A stay open for everyone watching.
Webinar mode is a Bevy Virtual room for a talk, panel, or broadcast. A small set of presenters is on camera. Everyone else watches and stays hidden from the other attendees. People still find the event on a chapter page or the community site, register on the event page, and join in the browser.
Chat and Q&A stay open when those tools are turned on. An attendee does not appear on camera unless a host or moderator promotes them. The event page, tickets, and attendance record are the same as any other event. Those are covered in Introduction to events.
Where webinar mode fits
- Community site — the public home. A public webinar can appear here with the chapter's other events.
- Chapter — the group that hosts it. The chapter team creates the event from that chapter.
- Event — one gathering, with its own page, registration, and attendance. See Introduction to events.
- Room — the live Bevy Virtual session. On a Meetup, webinar mode is that whole room. On a Conference, it is one session on the agenda.
For the rest of the platform, see Bevy introduction.
What people see
Before they join, people see the event page: title, date and time, a description, registration, and the people listed for the event when the page shows them. The session runs in Bevy. If people also meet in a physical room, that place can be listed on the same page.
After they join, attendees see the presenters. They do not see an open list of the other people watching. Hosts and moderators can still see who is in the room and bring someone on camera.
Note: Webinar mode is in beta. It works best with a large audience and up to 25 people on camera or microphone at once. If the option is not on the event yet, ask Bevy Support or your Customer Success Manager to enable webinar features for the community.
What webinar mode includes
| Building block | What it delivers |
|---|---|
| Listen-only audience | Attendees watch and listen. They stay hidden from other attendees. |
| Presenters | The people who can publish camera, microphone, or screen share. A speaker on the event page is not a presenter until a host or moderator grants that permission. |
| Chat and Q&A | The audience can ask questions and talk in chat when those tools are turned on. |
| Waiting room | An optional lobby. Attendees wait until a host or moderator admits them, when that option is enabled for the community. Late arrivals wait too. |
| Promotion | A host or moderator can put an attendee on camera during the session. They do not have to be listed as a speaker on the event page first. |
Meetup and Conference
| Product | How webinar applies |
|---|---|
| Bevy Virtual Meetup | Webinar mode applies to the whole room. Interactive mode, where many people are on camera together, turns off for that event. |
| Bevy Virtual Conference | Webinar is one session format. Other sessions, stages, booths, and networking tables keep their own formats. |
A standard Meetup room, including interactive sessions, is in Introduction to Bevy Virtual Meetup. A multi-session event is Introduction to Bevy Virtual Conference.
How people join
- They register on the event page, as an RSVP or a ticket, the same way they register for any other event.
- They select Join on that page when the event is open.
- They watch the presenters. Their own camera stays off until a host or moderator promotes them.
- They use chat and questions when the event has those tools turned on.
- When the waiting room is on, they wait in a lobby until a host or moderator admits them.
Who is in the room
| Person | What they do here |
|---|---|
| Attendee | Watches and listens. Hidden from other attendees. Uses chat and Q&A when those tools are on. No camera until a host or moderator promotes them. |
| Speaker on the page | Listed on the event page. That listing does not turn on microphone, camera, or screen share. |
| Presenter | Someone granted live microphone, camera, or screen share in that room. |
| Host | A chapter team member with permission to host. They can see who is watching and decide who can present. |
| Moderator | Someone promoted in the live room to help run chat, Q&A, and who can present. That promotion does not open the chapter dashboard. |
When to choose webinar mode
| If you need | Use |
|---|---|
| One room where many attendees can be on camera together | Introduction to Bevy Virtual Meetup |
| A few speakers and a large listen-only audience, as the whole event or as one session inside a larger event | Webinar mode |
| Several sessions, a stage, booths, or networking on the same event | Introduction to Bevy Virtual Conference |
What webinar mode is not
- It is not a link out to Zoom Webinar or another external tool. That path is an external URL on the event, for a session hosted outside Bevy.
- It is not an interactive Meetup, where many attendees can be on camera together.
- A webinar session on a conference agenda does not change the other rooms. Stages, booths, networking tables, and breakout rooms keep their own formats.
- A name on the event page is not permission to speak. Live presenter rights are granted in the room.
