An invite-only chapter does not offer Join. People become members when you add them. Saving the chapter as private sets Membership to Invite Only, unless the chapter already requires an application. Selecting Invite Only on a public chapter does not stay after you save.
Open your chapter in the Chapter Dashboard, select Settings, then stay on Overview. Membership is on that page. The helper under the options says Control how users can join your chapter. Private is under Access on the same page. The private-chapter warning is in Chapter Access and Status. Who can see a private chapter is in About private chapters. Adding people is in Chapter Members. Requiring an application is in Setup membership applications for your chapter.
Note: If Membership is missing, contact Bevy Support. You only see the options your community allows. If the choices are locked, your role cannot change the chapter status. If Private is not listed under Access, your community does not offer private chapters, and Invite Only will not stay after you save.
Make membership invite-only
Invite Only stays after you save only when the chapter is private. The helper text says Only invited users can join.
- Under Access, select Private.
- In Set as private?, select I understand. The message says that once you save, this action cannot be undone. Cancel leaves Private off.
- Select Save.
After you save, Membership shows Invite Only, unless an application option was already selected. People who are already members stay members.
Important: After you save, Private stays on. Contact Bevy Support if the chapter needs to be public again. See Chapter Access and Status.
Note: If you select Invite Only while the chapter is still public, Save sets Membership back to Open. Selecting Open on a private chapter also does not stay. Save sets Membership back to Invite Only.
What Save keeps
| What you select | Chapter is private? | Membership after Save |
|---|---|---|
| Invite Only | No | Open |
| Open | No | Open |
| Open or Invite Only | Yes | Invite Only |
| Application Required, or Application Required (Anonymous Allowed) | Yes or no | The application option you selected |
Add the people who can join
There is no invite for someone to accept, and no Join button for them to use. You add them, and they are members.
- Select Members.
- Select Add chapter member, or select Import CSV.
The form, the file, and which adds send email are in Chapter Members. Add chapter member and Import CSV appear only when your role can add members.
Members still see Leave on the chapter page. After they leave, they cannot join again until you add them.
What people see
- People who are not members do not see Join on the chapter page.
- Members see Leave.
- On a co-hosted event, Join opens the chapter page. It does not add them to the chapter.
- The chapter page can stay public. Invite Only does not hide the chapter or remove it from search. Hidden, Inactive, and Test chapter do that. See Chapter Access and Status.
- When people can choose chapters while they create an account, invite-only chapters are left off that list.
Require an application instead
People then request to join, and you approve each request. That choice stays, including on a private chapter.
- Under Membership, select Application Required, or select Application Required (Anonymous Allowed) if people should apply without logging in first.
- Select Save.
After you save, Application Survey and Applications appear on Members. See Setup membership applications for your chapter.
