On the AI moderation page, add members to Exemptions so their direct messages, event chat, and Q&A skip automated chat moderation until you remove them. Event moderators and hosts already skip it in channels they moderate.
The AI moderation page is where admins set automated rules for community chat: direct messages, event chat, Q&A, and moderated Q&A. The Exemptions section lists people whose messages skip those rules.
Note: These steps are for chat AI moderation (direct messages and virtual event chat surfaces). To let people publish forum posts without waiting on forum auto-moderation, see Exempt a category from auto-moderation. Your community must have AI chat moderation enabled, and you need permission to manage chat moderation policy.
Open AI moderation
- Sign in as an admin who can manage chat moderation.
- Open the discussions experience, then select Moderate in the sidebar.
- Select AI moderation.
- Scroll to the Exemptions section.
If you do not see AI moderation, it is not enabled for your community, or your account does not have permission to change the policy. Contact your Customer Success Manager or Bevy Support.
What an exemption does
People listed under Exemptions skip AI moderation in every channel type on the page, with no end date. The page also shows a fixed Moderators row for event moderators and hosts.
| Who | Channels | How long |
|---|---|---|
| Moderators (built-in row) | Channels they moderate | While they hold the role |
| Member you add under Exemptions | All channels | Always (until you remove them) |
| An exemption does | An exemption does not |
|---|---|
| Skip the AI moderation rules for that member across every chat channel type on the page (direct messages, chat, Q&A, and moderated Q&A), including AI detection, list rules, and flooding | Stop hosts or moderators from muting, removing messages, banning, or using other human moderation tools |
| Stay in place with no end date until an admin removes the member from Exemptions | Exempt the member from forum or discussion post auto-moderation (that is a different setting) |
| Apply only to members of this community | Let you limit the skip to one channel type or set an expiration (for example “7 days”) |
Tip: Use Exemptions for trusted staff, partners, or bots whose messages would otherwise hit blocklists or AI rules. Prefer a short, deliberate list — an exempt member is not reviewed by the automated rules until you remove them.
Add a member to Exemptions
- On AI moderation, go to Exemptions.
- Select Add people.
- In Name or username, enter at least two characters, then select Search.
- In the results, select Add next to the member you want to exempt.
When the add succeeds, Bevy confirms that the member now skips AI moderation, and they appear in the Exemptions table with All channels and Always.
If the search finds no one, try another name or username spelling. Members who are already exempt show Already exempt instead of Add. You can only exempt active members of this community.
Important: Wait for the add to finish before you close the dialog. Closing while Add is still running can still exempt the member.
Remove a member from Exemptions
- On AI moderation, go to Exemptions.
- Find the member in the table.
- Select Remove.
When removal succeeds, Bevy confirms that AI moderation applies to that member again. Their messages are checked by the same AI detection, list, and flooding rules as everyone else.
You cannot remove the built-in Moderators row. Event moderators and hosts stop skipping moderation in a channel when they no longer hold the moderator role there.
