When more than one post type is available, the New post button opens a menu so you can choose the type before you start writing.

Choosing a post type up front helps your post land in the right format, for example a standard Discussion or a Question that can have an accepted answer. The types you see depend on what your community and the current category have turned on.

Choose a post type

To start a new post with a specific type:

1. Select New post.
2. In the menu, choose the post type you want, for example Discussion, Idea, Blog or Question.
3. Write your post, then publish it.

Which types appear

The menu only lists post types that are available for where you are posting:

• In a category, you see the types that category allows.
• From the homepage or a place with no category selected, you see the types your community has turned on.

You can still change the post type in the compose form before you publish.

Tip: If you only have one post type available, New post opens the composer directly instead of showing a menu.
