Sometimes a live event call runs into a network problem — video freezes, audio cuts out, or the call drops for no clear reason. This often happens when you join a VPN, a corporate firewall, or a restrictive Wi-Fi network mid-call. The Bevy platform spots the issue and offers a fix: a relay connection that routes your call traffic through a different path, so a firewall or VPN can't block it.
Spot the "Network issue detected" message
If your connection stays interrupted for more than 30 seconds, the platform shows a "Network issue detected" pop-up. It explains the problem and offers a one-click fix:
We detected a network issue that may be affecting your connection. This can happen when joining a VPN or strict network. Click below to try a different connection method.
You have two options:
- Try different connection — reloads the event room and rejoins the call using a relay connection.
- Dismiss — closes the pop-up and keeps your current connection.
Switch connections from the help menu
You can switch between a direct and a relay connection anytime during a live session, even if the pop-up doesn't appear. Open the help menu in the bottom right of the event room and pick the option you need:
- Use relay connection — switches from a direct to a relay connection.
- Switch to direct connection — switches from a relay back to a direct connection.
Both options reload the event room, then rejoin the call using the connection you picked.
When a relay connection helps
Try a relay connection if you run into any of these issues in a live event:
- Your video or audio drops repeatedly.
- Other attendees can't see or hear you, even after you check your camera and mic.
- You joined a VPN or corporate network right before the problem started.
- You're on a strict Wi-Fi network, like one at a hotel, airport, or conference venue.
Things to know
- A relay connection can add a small amount of lag because your traffic takes a longer path. It's a fair trade for a stable call.
- Your choice applies to the current event session. If you leave and rejoin later, you start on a direct connection again.
- The connection option in the help menu only shows during a live session. You don't see it on pages like the event agenda or sponsor booths.
Still having trouble?
If a relay connection doesn't fix the issue, try these steps:
- Check your internet connection on another site or app.
- Switch from Wi-Fi to a wired connection if you can.
- Disconnect your VPN and rejoin the event.
- Ask your IT team about firewall rules that may block live video.
If the issue continues, contact the team at Bevy through the help menu in the event room.
