Configure Your Streaming Microphone: Input and Output
A "streaming microphone" is a specialized device designed to capture high-quality audio for things like podcasts, live streams, or online meetings. The key characteristic of a streaming mic is that it's an input-only device. This means it's built to record your voice, but it doesn't have a built-in speaker to play back audio.
Why You Need a Separate Audio Output
Since your streaming microphone is dedicated to capturing sound, you'll need a separate device to hear any audio playback—like your audience, co-hosts, or system sounds. This "audio output device" can be:
- Headphones: These offer the best listening experience for most streaming setups, providing clear audio and minimizing echoes or feedback.
- External Speakers: If you're using a desktop computer, you'll need speakers connected to your computer.
- Built-in Laptop Speakers: Laptops come with integrated speakers that can serve as your audio output.
Setting Up Your Audio on the Bevy Platform: Input and Output Configuration
Once you've connected both your streaming microphone and your chosen audio output device, you'll need to configure your audio settings within the Bevy platform. This ensures Bevy knows which device to use for what purpose.
Here's how to generally set up your audio within a Bevy event:
- Select Microphone Input: In the settings window, locate the "Microphone" or "Input Device" dropdown menu. From the list, select your streaming microphone. This tells Bevy to record audio from your high-quality mic.
- Choose Audio Output: Find the option for "Speakers" or "Output Device." Select your headphones or external speakers here. This routes all incoming audio—like your audience's voices or any other sounds—to your chosen listening device.
By correctly configuring both your streaming microphone for input and a separate device for audio output within your Bevy event settings, you'll achieve clear, high-quality sound for your audience while also being able to hear other presenters on the stage.
Trouble presenting
Muted microphone
If you're a host or presenter and your microphone isn't working, we recommend trying the following:
- Run a pre-call test

If you're a host or presenter, and you can't share your screen, we recommend trying the following:
- Check your system permissions, and then restart your browser

Black bars around video
Black bars or extra black space around a shared screen can be a result of a smaller screen size used in a presentation and how it scales for attendees. If multiple attendees told you that you have black bars on your screen, we recommend trying the following:
- Present from a higher-resolution screen
- Adjust the size of your browser to be narrower or shorter
- Adjust the zoom of your browser to at least 100%
