When discussion archiving is enabled, moderators and authors can remove a published chapter or event discussion so it can be restored later, see who archived it, or request removal of their own post for moderator review.
On chapter and event discussions, Remove is the menu action for a published post. When your community has discussion archiving enabled, Remove archives the post so a moderator can restore it later. When archiving is not enabled, Remove permanently removes the post from the discussion page.
Note: These steps are for chapter and event discussions, including the discussion widget on a chapter or event page and the classic discussion board topic page. For Enterprise Forums remove-and-restore (including keeping replies visible), see Moderating discussions. For the broader chapter and event discussion toolkit, see Manage and moderate chapter and event discussions.
Who can remove and restore
What you see in the three-dot menu depends on your role and on whether your community has discussion archiving and author removal requests enabled:
| Role | What you can do | Menu label |
|---|---|---|
| Moderator or admin with archive permission | Archive a published discussion or comment, then restore it later | Remove / Restore |
| Author of the post (when self-archive is available) | Archive your own published discussion or comment | Remove |
| Author without archive permission (when removal requests are enabled) | Ask moderators to remove your published post | Request removal |
Volunteer, Moderator, and Forum Admin roles include archive permission by default. Chapter team roles determine whether a team member can moderate chapter and event discussions.
Remove a discussion from the post page
Use these steps on the discussion topic page (the classic board view or the full post page):
- Open the published discussion.
- Select the three-dot menu on the original post.
- Select Remove.
- Confirm in the dialog. On the classic board, the dialog explains that the discussion will be hidden and that a moderator can restore it later.
You can also select Remove on an individual comment when you have permission. Removing a comment hides that comment; a moderator can restore it later.
Tip: If a discussion is pinned, sticky, or otherwise blocked from archiving, Bevy shows a message explaining why Remove cannot complete. Resolve that state (for example, unpin the post), then try Remove again.
Remove a discussion from the chapter or event page
When the Discussions widget appears on a chapter or event page, you can archive from the card without opening the full post:
- Open the chapter or event page that shows the Discussions widget.
- On the discussion card, select the three-dot menu.
- Select Remove.
- Confirm when prompted.
With discussion archiving enabled, the widget menu shows Remove (not Delete). Delete is reserved for unpublished drafts, or for communities where archiving is not enabled.
Restore a discussion
- Open the archived discussion (from the moderation queue, an archived feed view, or a direct link if you still have access).
- Select the three-dot menu on the original post, or use Restore on the archived banner when it is available.
- Select Restore.
- Confirm. On the classic board, the dialog explains that the content will be visible in the discussion again.
After restore, the discussion returns to the feed. Restoring does not automatically restore a previous pin.
Note: A person with a lower moderation rank cannot restore a post removed by someone with a higher rank.
See who archived a post
When a post is archived, people with archive permission can see who archived it:
- On feed cards and moderation views, Bevy shows Archived on [date] by [name] when the archiver’s name is available.
- If the name is unavailable (for example a system action or a deleted account), the message shows the date only: Archived on [date].
- On the post page, archived content can also show an Archived chip. An internal archive note, if one was saved, appears for moderators.
The archiver name appears even when no archive note was left.
Request removal of your own post
When author removal requests are enabled and you do not have archive permission, you cannot archive or permanently remove your own published post yourself. Instead:
- Open your published discussion or comment.
- Select the three-dot menu.
- Select Request removal.
- In Request post removal, optionally add a reason, then select Request removal.
Bevy confirms that the request was submitted. Moderators review it in the moderation dashboard. While a request is waiting, the menu shows Removal pending review and you cannot submit another request for the same post.
Important: Request removal does not hide the post immediately. The post stays visible until a moderator acts on the request. If you have archive permission, use Remove instead of Request removal.
What members see after Remove
- With archiving enabled, the post is hidden from members who cannot archive. Moderators (and others with archive permission) can still open it, see who archived it, and restore it.
- With archiving not enabled, the confirmation dialog treats Remove as permanent from the discussion page. Comments and replies are removed with the post, and there is no Restore action.
- Removing a post does not delete the author’s account.
