Open Bevy Virtual event chat in its own browser window — for example on a second monitor — then return it to the event when you are done.
When your community offers it, Bevy Virtual chat can open in a separate browser window. Keep the live session on one screen and follow chat on another. Closing the pop-out window puts chat back in the event.
- Pop out chat — control in the chat panel header that opens chat in a new window.
- Return chat to the event — control in the pop-out window that closes it and restores the in-event chat panel.
Note: Pop-out chat is not available on every community. If you do not see Pop out chat in the chat panel header, your community has not enabled it yet — or you are on a narrow/mobile layout where the control does not appear. Contact Bevy Support or your Customer Success Manager if you need it turned on.
Pop out the chat
- Join the Bevy Virtual Meetup or Bevy Virtual Conference event on a desktop-width browser window.
- In the event tray, select Chat (or open Backstage chat / Public chat when those panels are available).
- In the chat panel header, select Pop out chat.
- Allow the new window if your browser asks about pop-ups.
Chat opens in its own window. The in-event side panel closes. You can move or resize the window — for example onto a second monitor.
Tip: While chat is popped out, selecting Chat in the event focuses the pop-out window instead of opening a second panel. As you move between sessions, the pop-out window follows the chat for your current room when that sync is available.
Return chat to the event
Use either path — both put chat back in the event:
- In the pop-out window header, select Return chat to the event.
- Or close the pop-out browser window.
The pop-out window closes and the chat panel reopens in the event.
If the pop-out window does not open
- Allow pop-ups for the event site in your browser, then select Pop out chat again. If the browser blocks the window, chat stays in the event with no separate error message.
- Use a wider desktop window. The control is for desktop layouts, not small phone-sized screens.
- Open chat from inside the live event. A bookmark or shared pop-out URL by itself is not enough — you need an active event tab.
- If chat never loads at all (spinner, no messages), see Troubleshooting Chat Loading Issues in Bevy Virtual.
