This article explains how to manage tags, configure event tag settings for event types, and add tags to an event.
Use event tags to identify certain keywords that describe and categorize the event more specifically and make them easier to find.
After you publish an event with event tags, they display in different places including:
- Upcoming events lists on the community homepage
- The chapter events list page
- The event page
- The upcoming events section of the chapter page
Event tags are available in the Events analytics dashboard, so you can look at events with a specific tag and in API calls.
We recommend having less than 20 tags. Our customers usually have a few categories of tags, like:
- Topic
- Event type
- Product or feature
- Language
- Audience
- Region
Manage tags
- Click Settings from the left sidebar in the Admin Dashboard.
- On the Event Tags tab, click Add New Tag.
This adds a new row. - Enter a tag name, and click Save Tags.
Tags can only contain letters, numbers, colons (:), semicolons (;), apostrophes ('), forward slash (/), and hyphens (-). - Move tags to change their order.
The order they display in, on this page, is the same order they display on the event pages.
Set tag thresholds in event types
Each event type must have a maximum tag value greater than 0 in order for the tag option to show up in event creation.
- Click Settings from the left sidebar in the Admin Dashboard.
- Click the Event Types tab and edit the event type you want to change.
- To include tags, set the maximum to a number greater than 0 and enter the minimum you want.
- Click Save.
Add tags to events
Only authorized users can create tags in the admin dashboard. If there aren't any tags added in the admin dashboard, the tagging options don't display in event settings.
- Create a new event or edit an event in the Chapter Dashboard.
- Below the event description, select tags to apply.
You can select multiple tags. - Save and publish the event.
Modify existing tags
To update or remove an existing tag, follow the next steps:
Update the label for a tag
- Click Settings from the left sidebar in the Admin Dashboard.
- Click the Event Tags tab. You'll find in this tab all the existing tags available.
- You can modify the label associated to the available tags from this page.
- Click Save Tags to apply the changes
It is important to note that the label will be updated for all existing events using the Event Tag, including past events.
Archive an event tag
You can archive event tags that you no longer want to use but want to keep for historical data purposes. Archiving tags will remove the tag from the drop-down options in the event creation dashboard. When event tags are archived, it shows the name of the admin who archived it and the date of archival.
Archive a Tag
- Click on Settings from the left sidebar in the Admin Dashboard.
- Click the Event Tags tab.
- Next to each tag is the Archive button.
- Select Archive. And the tag will move to the Archive list.
Bulk archiving of event tags in the dashboard is currently not available.
View and Restore Archived tags
- Click on Settings.
- Click on Show Archived.
- This will show the list of archived event tags, the admin who archived them and the date they were archived.
- To restore the archived event tag, click Unarchive.
- The event tag will move to the list of available event tags.
Delete an event tag
- Click Settings from the left sidebar in the Admin Dashboard.
- Click the Event Tags tab.
- Click the X to remove the event tag
- Click Save Tags to apply the changes
Deleted tags can't be applied to new events, and they are removed from existing events. This means that you can't sort using that tag in analytics.
