Join chapter and event Discussions from the chapter or event page when your community offers them. Who can start a discussion or comment varies by community. This is separate from Enterprise Forums. Use the Users how-to for create, edit, report, and reply steps.
This page is about chapter and event Discussions (also called Bevy Discussions): threaded conversations on a chapter or event page. It is not about Enterprise Forums, which is a separate add-on with its own forum directory and categories.
| Chapter and event Discussions | Enterprise Forums | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | Threaded conversations on chapter and event pages (Bevy Discussions) | Optional add-on with a full forum experience (standalone feeds, categories, and advanced tools) |
| Where you find it | Usually a Discussions section on the chapter or event page | A community forum / discussions directory and category pages (when your community has the add-on) |
| Included with Bevy? | Yes, when the community enables Discussions for chapters and events | No — Enterprise Forums is a separate add-on |
| This article covers | Yes — how members and attendees take part | No — see Getting Started with Enterprise Forums if your community uses that product |
- Chapter discussions — conversations on a chapter page for members of that chapter (when enabled).
- Event discussions — conversations on an event page for attendees and members of the hosting chapter (when enabled).
- Discussion notifications — optional on-site and email alerts you control on Profile → Updates when your community offers them.
Note: Whether you can start a discussion or comment varies by community. Communities choose whether Discussions are on, which chapters enable them, who may create posts or reply, and whether the Discussions block appears on the page. Event discussions follow the chapter that owns the event. If you do not see Discussions — or you can read but cannot post — that community’s settings may not allow it for your account.
Find chapter or event discussions
- Open the chapter page or event page where you want to take part.
- Sign in with the account you use for that community.
- Scroll to the Discussions section on that page.
- Open a discussion to read and reply, or select Start a discussion when your community allows you to create a new post.
If the button asks you to log in, join the chapter, or join the event, complete that step first, then return to the page. If there is no Discussions section and no create or comment control, Discussions may be off for that chapter or event, or posting may be limited to organizers.
Tip: For step-by-step create, edit, report, delete, reply, and @mention actions in chapter and event Discussions, use Creating and Managing Discussion Forum Posts | Users.
Who can usually participate
| Discussion location | Who can usually post | If you cannot post |
|---|---|---|
| Chapter page Discussions | Members of that chapter (when the community allows member posting) | Sign in and join the chapter when membership is open, or ask organizers if posting is limited or invite-only |
| Event page Discussions | Event attendees, and often members of the chapter that owns the event (when the community allows it) | Register for the event (or join the hosting chapter), then return to the event page — or ask organizers if commenting is limited |
These are the common patterns. Your community can tighten or change who may start discussions or comment. Chapter team members keep discussion access for their chapter and related events based on their team role. Leaving a chapter can end chapter discussion access for that group; event tickets are separate.
Manage discussion notifications
To change how often you get discussion emails or on-site alerts (when your community offers them):
- Sign in, open your profile menu, then select Profile.
- Select the Updates tab.
- When available, use Notification Settings for discussion preferences, then save that section.
You can also turn notifications on or off for a single discussion from that discussion’s menu. Mailing-list toggles on the same Updates tab are separate from discussion Notification Settings.
