Keep your community safe by controlling which external links your member can following without a warning. Add the sites you trust so your members can click through without interruption.
Overview
When a member clicks a link in a post or discussion that goes to a site outside your community, Bevy can show a short warning before they leave. This gives members a moment to confirm before visiting an unfamiliar site.
You can add the websites your community already trusts — like your company’s main site or regular partner sites — so members can click those links without seeing the warning.
This warning only appears on links inside discussion and forum posts. It does not apply to links in emails and other pages of your community site.
What members see
When a member clicks a link that is not on the trusted list, a short message appears:
You’re leaving this site This link will take you to a site outside of our community. Continue? The full web address of the destination is shown, so members can see exactly where the link leads. |
From here, members can:
- Continue — opens the link in a new tab.
- Cancel — closes the message and keeps the member on the current page.
Manage trusted links
To manage your trusted links, you need:
- Admin access on your Bevy dashboard.
- The trusted links feature enabled on your community. If you are not sure whether it is on, check the status message at the top of the trusted links page, or contact Bevy support.
Find your trusted links list
- Open the dashboard for any chapter.
- In the left menu, select External link allow list.
The following people interact with this feature:
- Community members — See the warning when clicking links that are not on the trusted list. No setup needed.
- HQ Admins — Can add or remove trusted sites from the dashboard.
Changes you make apply to your entire community, not just one chapter.
Add or remove trusted sites
On the trusted links page, you will see:
- A message at the top showing whether the feature is currently on or off.
- A text box where you can type the sites you want to trust.
"The interstitial is currently disabled for this site" means the warning message that appears when members click external links is turned off for trusted links. Contact Bevy support to turn it on.
Select Save changes to update list.
How to enter web addresses
Enter the plain website address only. Do not add http:// or https:// in front, and do not include any page paths after the address. The table below shows what to enter and what it covers:
| What you enter | What it covers |
| bevy.com | Only bevy.com — nothing else. |
| www.bevy.com | Only www.bevy.com. |
| *.partner.com | Any version of partner.com — for example, blog.partner.com or support.partner.com. This does not cover partner.com on its own. Add that separately if you need it. |
Recommended sites to add first
When you first set up this feature, add the sites your members are most likely to see in posts, including:
- Your community’s main website.
- Your company or organization’s main website.
- Any partner or sponsor sites that are regularly linked in posts.
Review your trusted list from time to time. Any site on the list is treated as safe for your members, so remavy sites that are no longer active or that you longer recognize.
Troubleshoot common issues
If something is not working as expected, use the table below to find a solution:
| What you see | Why it may be happening | What to do |
| The warning still shows after a link I added to the trusted list. | The page loaded before your changes were saved, or the address was entered incorrectly. | Refresh the page. If the warning still appears, check that the address has no http:// or extra slashes. |
| I don’t see the trusted links option in the menu. | Your account may not have admin access. | Only HQ Admins can view and add trusted links-check your community site permissions. |
| I get an error when I try to save. | Your session may have expired, or an address was entered in the wrong format. | Sign out and back in, then try again. Make sure each address has no http:// or page paths. |
| My saved list looks different after saving. | Bevy automatically tidies the list — removing duplicates and sorting it alphabetically. | No action needed. Your changes were saved successfully. |
