Learn how to request a branded customer virtual background for your community's virtual events, including image requirements, where attendees will see it, and how to troubleshoot common issues.
Bevy lets admins set a branded custom virtual background for virtual events. Your uploaded image appears in the Background Effects picker for attendees to select during the event.
Who can set this up
Community admins can request a custom virtual background by contacting Bevy Support.
Set up a custom virtual background
- To add a custom virtual background:
- Prepare your image file (see Image requirements below).
- Contact Bevy Support and share your image file.
- (Optional) Include a custom label for the background.
- Bevy Support uploads and publishes the image to your community.
The label controls what attendees see in the effects list. If you don't provide one, Bevy displays "Custom background" by default.
Image requirements
Supported file types: PNG, JPG, JPEG
Recommended dimensions: 1280 × 720 px or larger (16:9 aspect ratio)
Where attendees find it
Attendees can open Background Effects in two places:
- The pre-join area (haircheck)
- In-call controls during the session
Your custom image appears as one of the available effect options in both locations.
Limitations
Background effects depend on browser and device support. If a user's environment doesn't support virtual background processing, effects may not appear.
Other factors that can affect availability:
- Temporary camera access issues
- Device performance constraints
At this time, Bevy supports one custom background slot per community. Attendees can't upload their own background images.
Troubleshooting
I don't see my background yet.
Contact Bevy Support to confirm your image was uploaded and published.
Attendees don't see Background Effects
Their browser or device may not support video effects. Ask them to try to supported desktop browser.
The background name looks wrong
Contact Bevy Support to update your custom background label.

Can attendees upload their own background images?
Not currently. Bevy supports one admin-configured custom background.
Can I add multiple custom backgrounds?
Not currently. One custom image slot is available per community.
Does this apply to all virtual events?
It applies to events where your virtual event experience and effects controls are enabled, as long as attendees' devices and browsers support them.
