When you're sharing your Bevy event with your community via email, you have a couple of options for the link. To ensure everyone gets to the right place, and you can track how effective your emails are, it's best to use the short link / permalink we provide for your event.
Think of it like this:
-
Long Links: These are like the full, detailed address of your event online. While they work, if you happen to change the name of your event later, this long address might also change. If someone clicks on an outdated version of this long address, they will likely still be redirected to the correct event, but sometimes special tracking information you've added to the link might get lost during this redirect.
-
Short Links: These are like a special, shorter code that always points to your event, no matter how many times you change its name. It's like having a reliable postal code that always gets the mail to the right building, even if the street name changes.
Why are short links better for emails?
The biggest advantage of using the short link is that it helps you track how many people are clicking on the link in your email. This tracking information, often called "UTM parameters," helps you understand which emails are most effective at bringing people to your event.
When someone clicks on a short link in your email, our system redirects them to the full event page, and importantly, it keeps that tracking information intact. If you use the long link and it redirects due to an event name change, this tracking information can sometimes be lost.
How to find the short link:
You can easily find the short link for your event in a couple of places within the event's dashboard:
- Permalink Field: Look for a field labeled "Permalink." This field will contain the short link, which typically has a format similar to
https://yourbevyinstance.com/e/abcdefg/
. - Share Button: Alternatively, click the "Share" button for your event. One of the options available will be to "Copy" the event link, and this will be the short, permanent link.
In short, for the most reliable tracking and to avoid issues with event name changes, always use the short event link (found in the Permalink field or via the Share button) when sharing in email. If you do encounter any problems or notice that the link in your email isn't taking people to the right place, or you're missing tracking information, please let us know, and we'll be happy to investigate further.
