Learn how HQ Admins and chapter team members create, manage, and moderate discussions connected to chapters and events. This article covers where these discussions appear, the post tools available to organizers, and how to narrow moderation queues to chapter-linked or event-linked content.
Applies to: Chapter and event discussions in Bevy Discussions. It does not cover standalone forum categories, which appear as Forums Only in the moderation dashboard and use explicit forum access instead of chapter membership, chapter team roles, or event attendance. Your community may use different terms for chapters and events.
About chapter and event discussions
Chapter and event discussions appear on the related chapter or event page when the Discussions widget is included on that page.
- Chapter discussions must be enabled for the chapter.
- Event discussions follow the setting for the chapter that owns the event. They are not enabled separately for each event.
- Chapter members receive participant access to the chapter discussion. Event attendees receive participant access to the event discussion.
- Chapter team permissions determine whether a team member participates as a volunteer, moderator, or admin.
If you do not see discussions on a chapter or event page, confirm that discussions are enabled for the chapter and that the Discussions widget is included on the page. If posting is unavailable across chapter and event discussions, ask an HQ Admin to check the community's discussion settings.

Moderate chapter and event discussions
HQ Admins and chapter team members with moderation permissions can use the same post tools on other members' posts. Their available actions depend on the role assigned through the chapter team.
Ban a member
To ban a member from a chapter or event discussion, select Ban on one of their posts, then provide a reason, ban length, scope, and any internal notes.
The following options are available:
| Setting | Options |
|---|---|
| Ban length | 1 day, 5 days, 15 days, 30 days, a custom date, or permanent |
| Ban scope | This forum bans the member from the current chapter or event category and requires permission to ban members there. All forums bans the member from every category in the community, including standalone categories, and requires the separate global Django permission. A chapter team role alone does not grant the global option. |
When on the "banned" moderation page, all banned posts will appear in the dashboard. Clicking the three dots on the posts will allow the admin to unban the user.
- If there are no "3 dots" visible, then it means they are no longer banned, and a timestamp of when they were banned and when it ended will be shown.
In the image below, you will see 2 records:
- The first row, shows that user "Fake Mischief" is currently banned
- Send row shows that user "Fake" was banned for 1 day, and it ended 7 days ago
The Banned page shows active bans and also serves as an audit trail of who was banned, when, why, and by whom.
