Share your screen and audio in Bevy Virtual Conference, adjust the quality of what you share, and present slides even when you only have one monitor.
You must have Presenter Mode enabled to share your screen. If you don't see the screen-share option, ask a host or moderator in the event to enable it for you.
Share your screen
To share your screen:
In the bottom menu bar, select Share screen.
Choose what to share (options vary by browser):
Entire Screen—shares everything on your display.
Window—shares a single app window.
Browser Tab—shares one browser tab.
Select Share to start sharing with the audience. If you use Safari, you receive a single prompt to share your whole screen.
To stop sharing, select Stop sharing.
Only one person can screen share at one time.
Screen sharing and MacOS permissions
If you use macOS, and you're having trouble sharing your screen in Presenter Mode, you may need to change settings on a Mac computer. This is common for those that are using Bevy Virtual Meetup for the first time on a Mac computer.
- Click the Apple logo in the top-left corner of your screen.
- Select System Preferences.
- Locate Security and Privacy.
- Toggle the Privacy tab.
- Scroll down to Screen Recording – enable this for your browser – Chrome, Firefox, or Safari.
- Quit your browser and reopen the session. You should then be able to screen share.
Share audio while you share your screen
You might want to play music or show a video with sound. For best results, open your media in a browser tab, for example YouTube Music or Spotify on the web, rather than a desktop app.
To prevent an echo, mute yourself while you share audio.
To share audio from a browser tab (macOS, Linux, and Windows):
Open your media in a browser tab.
In Bevy Virtual Conference, select Share screen.
Select the Browser Tab option.
Select the tab with your content.
Select Share tab audio.
Select Share, then select play.
To share audio from your desktop (Windows only):
Open your media app.
Select Share screen, then select Entire Screen.
Select the screen with your content.
Select Share system audio.
Select Share, then select play.
We currently do not support sharing screens from mobile devices and some tablets (iPads, etc.)due to the limitation of mobile browsers.
Adjust your screen-share quality
Screen-share quality options
Screen-share quality controls how your shared content looks. Choose the option that fits your content:
- Default—balances motion and detail automatically. Works well for general use.
- Detail Optimized—prioritizes sharpness for text, slides, code, and detailed graphics.
- Motion & Detail Balanced—a middle ground for presentations that mix slides and video.
- Motion Optimized—prioritizes smooth playback for video or animation.
Maximum screen share height
This setting allows you to manually set the maximum vertical resolution (in pixels) for your screen share.
- Function: It defines the level of detail in your screen share. A higher value, like 2160 pixels (4K), results in a much sharper and clearer image, especially for viewers on high-resolution displays.
- Impact:
- Increasing this value significantly increases the bandwidth required to share your screen smoothly.
- A higher resolution also requires more processing power, which can stress your computer's CPU. If your computer's performance slows down during a high-resolution screen share, you may need to lower this setting.
- Recommendation:
- For standard presentations with text and images, a setting of 1080 or 1440 is usually sufficient.
- Use 2160 only if you are sharing highly detailed content (like design mockups or 4K video) and you are confident that both your computer and your internet connection can support it. If your stream appears laggy or your computer becomes unresponsive, try lowering this value.
Allow screen recording on macOS
If you can't share your screen on a Mac, you may need to allow screen recording for your browser. This is common the first time you use Bevy Virtual Conference on a Mac.
Open the Apple menu, then select System Settings. On macOS Monterey and earlier, select System Preferences.
Select Privacy & Security. On macOS Monterey and earlier, select Security & Privacy.
Select Screen Recording.
Turn on screen recording for your browser: Chrome, Firefox, or Safari.
Quit and reopen your browser, then rejoin the session.
Please recheck these settings if you have updated your Mac OS as they may have defaulted to disabled.
Present slides with a single monitor on macOS
When you present with one monitor, sharing a single tab can make your slides look small, but you still need to see the event to answer questions or mute yourself. Sharing a full window and swiping between full-screen apps solves this.
Open System Settings, select Trackpad, then select More Gestures. On macOS Monterey and earlier, open System Preferences.
Turn on Swipe between full-screen apps.
Open your slides in a new browser window.
In Bevy Virtual Conference, share your screen and choose that window.
When you present, swipe between screens.
When you swipe, attendees see only what you share, and your slides display at the right size.
Attendee screen share experience
When a presenter is sharing the screen, their screen will take up the Bevy Virtual Meetup window and the presenter will appear as a thumbnail in the top-right corner.
It is currently not possible to change this layout.
Best practices for screen sharing
Please keep in mind that sharing your audio may have limitations depending on your browser and operating system. Some browsers or operating systems may not support sharing system audio, or may only allow audio sharing from specific tabs.
- Start recording before screen sharing to capture the entire presentation.
- For sharing videos with sound, share a Chrome Tab and select Share Tab Audio, or select Entire Screen and select Share Device Audio.
- Only one person can screen share at a time, but multiple users can be in Presenter Mode.
- Leave a few seconds buffer before starting or ending your presentation.
- Turn on Do Not Disturb and mute app notifications.
- Enable Windows or Macs Do Not Disturb setting
- Use a second monitor when you can.
- This allows you to see chat, expressions and which screen you are sharing while having a full-screen share experience on the other monitor, allowing high-quality screen share.
- If you use a tab or an app in window mode, and it's too small, it could appear pixelated and small on viewers screens.
