This article covers tools that hosts have during an event to moderate chat and other attendee features
Who can moderate an event?
If you are a Chapter team member, you have moderation controls by default. Alternatively, hostss can promote other attendees to host during the event.
Mute attendees with presenter mode
To mute all attendees who have Presenter mode enabled, click the Mute icon next to All Attendees in the right sidebar.
Remove an attendee from the event
- Within the event, click the Attendees tab.
- Click the drop-down arrow next to the attendee's name.
- Select Permanently remove from event to ban the attendee from your event.
Delete a chat message
Hosts may delete any messages except those from other hosts.
Attendees can only delete their messages.
- Open the menu for the message you want to delete.
- Click Delete Message, and then confirm the change.
If a host deletes someone else's message, a notification displays for the person who sent the chat, letting them know.
Block chat for an attendee
As a host, you can block an attendee from sending messages for 24 hours, either from the chat or the attendee list. It's not possible to block messages from other hosts in the event.
To block from the chat:
- Open the menu of a message sent by the person you want to block.
- Select Block chat.
To block from the attendee list:
- Open the menu of the attendee you intend to block chat for.
- Select Block chat.
Take action on reported messages
Attendees can report to hosts another attendee's message in chat for violating the code of conduct.
- Attendee clicks to report a message.
- All hosts see a flagged message denoted with a yellow background.
- Hosts can take the following actions:
- Send a DM to the user
- Unflag the message to say it's safe
- Delete the message
- Block the chat
If you block the chat, the user will not be able to chat in any community event for the next 24 hours.
- Confirm the action (applies to deleting, unflagging, or blocking).
Use slow mode
All hosts can turn on slow mode, which limits how frequently attendees in an event can send messages in the chat. Messages that hosts send aren't limited.
Slow mode can be configured for each location in a virtual event like a session, lobby, booth, or stage.
Using slow mode makes it easier to keep up with messages and gives a chance for all voices to be heard.
To enable slow mode in an event:
- Open the chat settings.
- Select a chat frequency.
- Collapse the settings.
When you select a frequency, slow mode is immediately enabled.
About profanity filtering
The platform includes filtering for typical profanity in English and select words in other languages. If an attendee submits a message with inappropriate words in it, the system immediately deletes the message. The user's message will instantly dissapear.
