Introduction
Use the page builder to customize event pages. You can either make changes to either:
- The event page template—changes all event pages for all chapters in the admin dashboard.
- An event page—changes a single event page in the chapter dashboard.
When you make changes to the template, they're available any time you open the page builder for any event. When you publish an event, the latest template is applied.
By accessing the page builder while managing events in the chapter dashboard, community admins can customize the appearance of an individual event. After you customize an event, it isn't affected by any changes to the template. Changes to the event template don't apply to events you customize with the page builder. After you save changes in the page builder, you won't see any changes from the template.
Using event page builder
The page builder is a no-code editor where you can control community event pages' layout, components, and appearance. Using the page builder ensures consistency between chapters and enables customization.
Dynamic content and widgets enable you to drop and forget - Bevy automatically populates things like event or chapter details when the page is published.
The page builder has three panels:
-
Add to Canvas — a library of what you can add to your event page. Drag and drop things from the library to the editor.
-
Canvas — a WYSIWG editor of your event page. Click into content to edit or click and drag to rearrange.
-
Settings — specific configurations of the content in the editor. The settings available change depending on what's selected in the editor.
Changes are not applied until you click the Save button. Leaving the page without clicking the Save button will result in losing any progress you have made.
Enabling and disabling event page builder
Enabling Event Page Builder
Enabling Event Page Builder on your Bevy site is a two-step process.
-
Navigate to the admin dashboard and select the page builder tab in the left navigation. Select" edit default event template," modify the default event template as needed and save your changes.
- Within the admin dashboard, select the settings tab in the left navigation. Next, identify the Page Builder section and check the "enable event page builder box." When event page builder is enabled on your site, ALL published event pages will be converted to the event page builder version.
Disabling Event Page Builder
If the event page builder needs to be disabled on your Bevy site, uncheck the enable event page builder checkbox in the settings tab on the admin dashboard. All published event pages revert to the legacy event page version when this box is unchecked.
Accessing event page builder in Bevy
Only users with admin dashboard permissions on Bevy can access the event page builder, edit the default event template or edit the event page for a specific event. To access and edit the default event template on your Bevy site, navigate to the admin dashboard and select the page builder tab.
The HQ admin can also access the event page builder via the event dashboard. When the event page builder is accessed via the event’s dashboard, any modifications made on the page builder canvas are only applied to that specific event. The default event template and published events utilizing this template are unaffected.
Creating and using page builder event templates
Configuring the default event template
HQ admins create a template to define the appearance of all events for an organization. When you make changes to the template, they're available any time you open the page builder for any event. Likewise, when you publish an event, the latest template is applied.
To configure an event template:
-
In the admin dashboard, select Templates in the left-hand sidebar menu.
-
Next, select the Edit default template button for the template you want to change.
By accessing the page builder while managing events in the chapter dashboard, HQ admins can customize the appearance of an individual event. After you customize an event, it isn't affected by any changes to the template.
Customizing a one-off event page
HQ admins can access the page builder from the chapter dashboard to change a specific event.
To open the page builder:
-
In the chapter dashboard, select Events in the left-hand sidebar menu.
-
Create or edit an event.
-
Next, select the Page Builder button.
To prevent conflicts, changes to the event template don't apply to events you customize with the page builder. After you save changes in the page builder, you won't see any changes from the template.
Adding and removing layouts, elements, and components to your design
Layouts
Event Banner
The event banner is a prebuilt layout that HQ admins can add to the page builder canvas. The event banner is split into four content containers and is meant to quickly convey details about the event.
Container one includes the event title, chapter name, start date and time, short description, placeholder text, and event attendee count.
Container two includes the event tags, and container three consists of the social sharing icons, and the last container consists of the join event/ register button.
Bevy recommends placing the event banner at the top of your event page design.
Note that the dates are localized automatically to the end-user timezone.
Three Columns
The three columns are a prebuilt layout that HQ Admins can add to the event page design. For each column, an image, title, body text, and button are included in the layout.
HQ Admins can adjust the spacing between and within columns with the spacing margin and gap controls. In addition, deleting addition, deleting, and duplicating actions can modify this layout to fewer or more than three columns.
Alternating
Alternating is a prebuilt layout that HQ Admins can add to the event page design. Like the three columns layout, alternating enables HQ Admins to pair images with content.
Bevy recommends using this layout when incorporating longer-form content on an event page.
Featured Video
The featured video is a prebuilt layout that HQ Admins can add to the event page design. Additionally, HQ Admins can embed videos from external sources via an external video URL or feature the Bevy wrap-up video.
Quote
The featured quote is a prebuilt layout that HQ Admins can add to the event page design. Like the alternating layout, the quote layout emphasizes text excerpts about the event or an attendee's previous experience.
Statistics
Statistics is a prebuilt layout that HQ Admins can add to the event page design. The statistics element is an attractive way to show at-a-glance facts about an event.
HQ Admins can adjust the spacing between and within each statistic with the spacing margin and gap controls. In addition, deleting and duplicating actions can modify this layout to fewer or more than four statistics.
Empty Container
The empty container enables a community admin to create a new layout. Building the layout within a container allows the community admin to quickly move the content to different locations on the event page.
Elements
Social Sharing
Add social sharing icons to an event page with the social sharing element and encourage registrants to share the event page with their social networks. When the social sharing element is added to the event page, all or some social sharing icons are displayed on the event page (this is dictated by the Social Network Sharing settings configured on the admin dashboard). An HQ admin cannot change the order of the social share icons, but they can change the color of the icons.
Event Tags
Add event tags to the event page with the event tags element. Event tags are used to identify specific keywords that describe and categorize the event more precisely and make them easier to find. An HQ admin cannot change the order of the event tags from the event page builder; the order is controlled from the event’s dashboard, but they can change the color of the event tags.
Event Venue Chip
Add event venue information to the event page with the event venue chip element. The event venue chip displays one of the following hybrid, virtual, or in-person event types. The HQ admin can change the color of the event venue chip.
Text
Add static content to an event page with the text element. The static text does not automatically update on the event page and must be manually updated by the HQ admin or someone with event page builder permissions. Within the text settings, the HQ admin can customize the following settings.
-
Text Style - In the text style drop-down, the HQ admin can assign the body or heading style to the selected text. Heading styles 1 through 5 are supported in the page builder.
-
Font - In the font drop-down, the HQ admin can assign a specific font to the selected text. Only font styles enabled on your Bevy site will show in the list.
-
Text Size - The HQ admin can adjust the text size of the selected text. Sizes 12 - 80 are supported in the page builder.
-
Text Color - The HQ admin can adjust the text color of the selected text. The text color can be changed by entering the hex color code, the RGB color code, or selecting a color from the color picker.
-
Text Align - The HQ admin can adjust the alignment of the text. For example, the event page builder supports the left, center, and right alignment.
-
Style - The HQ admin can add bold, italic, or underlined styles to the selected text.
-
Insert link -The HQ admin can display text as hyperlinks via the insert link drop-down. Hyperlinked text can direct the page viewer to a custom URL, the chapter page URL, or the Join virtual event URL.
-
Lists – The HQ admin can add content to the event page as a bulleted or numbered list.
Video
The HQ admin can add embedded videos to any event page builder page with the video element. Visitors can watch the video on your event page without leaving the current page. Select Custom URL from the drop-down to embed video content from an external video platform like YouTube or Vimeo. Select wrap-up video from the drop-down to embed video content from the Bevy event dashboard. Video content can not be uploaded into Bevy.
The height of the embedded video cannot be adjusted, only the width, by setting the percentage in the video width setting.
Button
Add button(s) to the event page that encourages viewers to engage with content further down the event page or other community web pages. Buttons are a visual addition to your event page, making it easier for viewers to know where to click.
When adding a button to the event page, the HQ admin can configure the button to link to another webpage, a location (anchor) on the same event page, to the contact chapter, or to join the virtual event.
Buttons can be left, center, or right aligned, and one of two button styles can be selected. The available button styles in the event page builder are consistent with the established button styles throughout your Bevy Instance. Additional button styles are not supported.
-
Custom URL - Select Custom URL from the list to link viewers to content outside Bevy or a specific location on your Bevy instance.
-
Anchor - An anchor is a web page element that links the viewer to another location on the same page. Anchors improve the event page user experience because visitors can jump to specific parts of the page without having to scroll as much. An anchor can be applied to any section heading on the event page.
-
Join Virtual Event - Select join the virtual event from the list to create an automatic link for attendees to join your virtual event. When the button's configured to use the join virtual event link, the button will be inactive until the attendee's eligible to join the upcoming event.
-
Contact Chapter - Configuring a button to use the contact chapter option allows viewers to email the event's chapter organizer. When the button's selected, a form opens on the user's screen.
Image
The HQ admin can add images to any event page builder page with the image element. In addition, the HQ admin can add new images to the event page using the custom image upload. Custom images must be 2MB or smaller and have a supported file format of .jpg, .png, or .svg. Alternatively, an existing event banner or event thumbnail can be added to the event canvas. Images can be left, center, or right-aligned.
-
Alt text - Alt text is written copy describing an image's appearance on a page providing context for search engines, and is also read aloud by screen readers.
-
Image width - The height of the image cannot be adjusted, only the width, by setting the percentage in the image width setting.
-
Rounded corners - Define the radius of the corners of an element with the round corner settings.
Divider
Add the divider element to add a line to group content or create sections on the event page. The divider can be aligned left, right, or center and styled with width, drop shadow, and color settings.
Components
People
People is a prebuilt component that HQ admins can add to the event page builder canvas to communicate who's participating in the community event.
